Points Programs

Academy's points feature (attached to badges) allows you to reward learners for completing multiple courses/programs.

There are many reasons why you might want to encourage and incentivise learners to complete multiple programs/courses on your Academy platform, including:

  • to increase your sales
  • to recognise continuing professional development
  • to stack multiple courses together in order to achieve a recognised credential

Academy supports these goals via a points program. Points programs are displayed to the learner in the "My Badges" section:

This screenshot shows the points leaderboard and points home for a learner. It provides the learner with an overview of the points program, here called 'Masterminds', with a description of the program, image of the badge and indication of how many points the learner currently has obtained, plus what they still need to do to get to a higher badge level. There is also a leadersboard that shows the learner how they're doing relevant to other learners on the platform.

Enable Your Points Program

Enable your points program in Platform Settings >  Badges > Points:

This screenshot shows the points tab of the badge settings within platform settings. The points window allows the admin user to enable the points program and title the points on their platform. They can also set up the particular points program and relevant levels and point targets within that program.

In the example set up in the image above, we have re-named "Points" to "CPD Hours" to reflect a continuing professional development (CPD) program where participants are required to meet a minimum number of learning hours in order to meet the CPD obligations of their profession. Participants earn "hours" by completing courses on the Academy platform.

Assigning Points to Badges

Points (or hours) are attached to badges and are therefore earned on successful completion of a course/program. Specify the number of points/hours that can be allocated when earning a badge in the badge settings. Go to:

  • Program Admin > Badges
  • Edit an existing badge or create a new badge
  • Enable points and set a points value
  • Add an expiry date for the points, the badge, or the points and the badge (if required).

This screenshot shows the badge editing window within program admin, and the badges sub-heading. This badge window allows you to title and write a description for the badge, and add a certificate template if required. This window has the 'allocate points to this badge' section highlighted to demonstrate this is where the admin user can allot points to a badge. Below this, there is a drop-down menu they can select to turn on expiration dates for the badge.
